Elections of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), to be held on May 15 has seen 78 candidates opting out of the election.
As informed by the Returning Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner V S Hooda “The list of the candidates who have decided to withdraw their nominations has been compiled. Out of 456 candidates, 78 have withdrawn and two were rejected”.
On Wednesday, the symbols have been also distributed by the election authorities to all the candidates and various candidate have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the symbols which have been allotted to them.
As informed by Hooda, every candidate was provided with the three choices to choose symbol from and post assessing the availability of the symbol, it has been assigned to the candidate. The process of assigning the symbols will be finished by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, MCG has identified locations for the display of banners, hoarding and posters. The sites are identified in 11 wards and the process of locating locations in other wards is currently ongoing. The list of locations finalized for display of promotional material would be released soon, as informed by the officials.
The 11 wards in which locations have been identified are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. The candidates who are representing these wards have been allowed to place their posters, banners and hoarding only on their respective wards. The candidates are not allow to display their posters etc on any other locations except the one assigned to them and in case of doing so, the appropriate action will be taken against the specific candidate, as informed by a senior official.
Poll officials have been undergoing training and will require the pass certificate to be a part of the process. 36 trainers are providing training to the officials to teach them the methods to conduct elections.
Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits people to carry weapons in a specific area has already been implemented by administration till the elections are finished.
